The take

The sharpest thing Burton makes — every component chosen for maximum performance with minimum weight.

The Custom X is Burton's flagship performance board. Full camber, Dragonfly 600G core (their lightest), Multizone EGD, 45-degree Carbon Highlights High Voltage, and a Sintered WFO base. Every component is chosen for one goal: maximum performance with minimum weight.

What separates it from the Custom is the Dragonfly core. Where the Custom uses Super Fly II 700G, the Custom X's Dragonfly 600G uses end-grain woods in impact zones to drop weight without losing strength. The carbon layup is more aggressive — 'High Voltage' means more carbon, more snap. The result stores energy and releases it with authority. Big carves, big ollies, big speed.

The flex is seriously stiff. This board will fight you if your technique isn't there. Sloppy turns get punished. Lazy weight distribution gets amplified. For the expert rider who has put in years, rides with intention, and wants a board that responds to every input without filtering anything out, it's magnificent. For everyone else, it's exhausting. At PTO's price ($629.97, 30% off MSRP $899.95), the price-per-performance is strong — Burton's absolute best construction at a real deal.
