The take

It's a race ski. That's the whole pitch.

I'd been on the Nela 88 first and found it too soft for what I wanted. The MP gave me what I was looking for.

This is a real race ski. Edge grip is among the strongest I've felt — on hard groomers and ice it locks in and stays. Stability at speed is a 10. SL or GS shapes both come naturally if you have the technique to drive them. Energy out of the turn is good — not WRT-level, but not far off.

It's lighter than I expected for a race ski. That's intentional. Stöckli positions the MP a half-step softer than the WRT, more approachable for advanced skiers who don't race competitively. Still firmly a race ski, just not the most aggressive one in the lineup.

Where it falls down: anywhere off groomed snow. Narrow waist, no rocker, full camber. Off-piste it doesn't have anywhere to go. In chop it's not relaxed. The technique demand is real — beginners and most intermediates will fight it.

If you're working on race technique or you love GS/SL carving, this is the tool. Otherwise, it's not.

Bindings we'd pair with it

Mount point: Stöckli rail system (pre-mounted). Our pick: Stöckli SRT 12.

  • Stöckli SRT 12Recommended

Color-matched system binding designed for the Laser MP. Our standard recommendation for this ski.

  • Stöckli MC 11Lighter / women

Lower DIN, lighter weight. For skiers around 150 lbs and below.

The Laser MP ships with Stöckli's integrated rail, which only accepts Stöckli SRT-series bindings. Third-party bindings are not compatible.
