Buying Guide

How to Choose a Ski or Snowboard Helmet

A helmet only protects you if it fits. The right helmet matches your head shape (round vs. oval), sits level without wobbling, and has MIPS for rotational impact protection. Every helmet we sell meets current safety standards.

Head Shape

Round heads fit Smith helmets well. Oval heads tend to fit POC and some Giro models. A wrong shape means pressure points and gaps — neither is safe.

MIPS

Multi-directional Impact Protection System. A thin liner that lets the helmet rotate slightly on angled impacts, reducing rotational forces that cause concussions. Worth the extra $20-40.

Ventilation

Look for adjustable vents you can open and close with gloves on. At least 8-10 vents for adequate airflow. Fixed vents work but can't adapt to changing conditions.

FAQ

What helmet brands do you carry?

We carry Smith, POC, and Anon helmets. Bring your goggles when helmet shopping — we check the helmet-goggle pairing to make sure there's no gap.

When should I replace my helmet?

After any significant impact (even if it looks fine), or every 3-5 years. The foam degrades over time from sweat, UV, and wear.
